Side by Side After All These Years
Rtno Nola started the campaign

Mr. and Mrs. Jack have lived together in their home in Algiers Riverview for over four decades. Life-long Louisianans, Ernest and Vivian have many wonderful memories of the city and neighborhood they love so dearly.

Mr. Jack, a WW2 Army veteran, purchased their home with a loan from the VA in 1972. He and Vivian were the neighborhood’s first African-American homeowners, and it was here that they raised their five children.

Ms. Vivian has lived her entire adult life with multiple sclerosis and now requires the daily assistance of a nurse. She also requires a medical bed to help her get in and out of bed. The single-size bed sits in the family's living room. Never wanting to leave his wife's side, Mr. Jack has pulls up an Army cot alongside his wife's bed. There they sleep, with arms stretched across the gap between their two beds, holding hands and hoping to never be apart.

After a visit with the Jack's, the LSU Health Science Center Department of Occupational Therapy felt that having a comfortable double-bed would greatly increase this couple's quality of life.  Help us raise money to provide this loving, elderly couple with a new, queen-size Transfer Master medical bed, so that they may sleep side by side, again, after all these years.
