No Sleep Till Brooklyn for Black Girls CODE NY!
Alexis Ohanian started the campaign
I've been a fan of this great organization for a while and I'm not gonna sleep (OK, maybe a little) between now and 2014 until we bring it to my home -- Brooklyn, NY.

We just raised over $50K to fund every single STEM classroom project on DonorsChoose.org in Brooklyn, but I'm not done!

As I've said time and time again, the internet won't live up to its fullest potential if we can't get everyone access and the skills to make the most out of it. Over 2.5 million people live in Brooklyn and I want every one of them to have the same opportunities that I got, which has made all of my success in tech possible.

Black Girls CODE is an international non-profit organization with local chapters in San Francisco, Memphis, Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, and New York. They teach girls of color (ages 7-17) to become the masters of their technological futures by teaching them classes in game design, web development, robotics and more! They plan to change the face of technology by teaching 1M girls to code by the year 2040!

Their New York Chapter, launched in 2013, is growing fast and expanding rapidly and they're ready to take their programs to Brooklyn in 2014 with our first hackathon for girls only.

They can't do it alone. Their "When Girls Hack- Hackathon" will bring together over 100 girls for a two-day hackathon event where girls will learn to create mobile and web apps on those issues and to support those communities most important to them, bond, collaborate, and create awesome.

Make a donation today to make this event possible and help support some of Brooklyn's young women as they use tech to change the world -- "1GirlAtATime" -- without anyone's permission.

Brooklyn, stand up.
