Help the Jamaican Bobsled team get to Sochi!
Devon Harris started the campaign
*We've created this new link to share the campaign:
And the official hashtag: #JamaicanBobsled

***UPDATE 7 PM: The dogecoin digital currency community has joined forces with us to donate over 27 million dogecoins ($30,000+ USD), bringing the campaign from $73k to $103k+! Much amaze.

***UPDATE 1/20: This campaign is now confirmed as the official fundraiser for the Jamaican Bobsled team!!! After the initial momentum, the team's president Chris Stokes and founding member of the original "Cool Runnings" team Devon Harris reached out to the campaign's creator Lincoln. To give the campaign credibility and take this fundraiser to the next level, the Bobsled team (represented by Devon Harris) will now be the public face of the fundraiser. The campaign was initially created by everyday Winter Olympics fan Lincoln Wheeler, who has been shocked by the public outpouring of support.

Another note: we've started to get word that the Olympics are going to cover travel costs for the team, after the immense popular support shown through this fundraiser. Devon and Chris from the official Jamaican Bobsled team will be able to update more on this. However, they'll still need all funds from this campaign to afford their jackets, equipment, and the three weeks of training time until Sochi. So let's keep supporting the team!

On T-shirts: Anyone who has contributed $50 or more will get an exclusive #CoolRunnings2 T-shirt! We'll send out a survey when the campaign ends to get your T-shirt sizes and mailing addresses.

***UPDATE 1/19: Wow, you guys are AMAZING! I can't believe we've already raised $16,237/$80,000! In under 24 hours you've tilted this and gotten the Jamaican Bobsled team so much closer to Sochi. :) I've been in touch with the Crowdtilt team and they've confirmed that they are in touch with Chris Stokes and Winston Watts, and will handle the disbursements of the funds directly to the Jamaican Bobsled team. Keep up the good work -- let's get these guys to the Olympic games!!!

---

You might have seen this wild story—maybe cooler than "Cool Runnings"—that Jamaica's under-funded 2-man bobsled team just qualified to compete in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. But they don't have enough cash to get to the Olympics, according to Winston Watts, the dedicated team captain who has been self-funding their efforts. So they're looking for any way possible to fund their trip to Sochi. And right now, they're at zero.

With no support from the Jamaica Olympic Association or private investors, Watts has been struggling to get the team ready. He's even been using his own private savings to fly the team to the US for qualifiers. From Watts himself: "I just about get by financially. Beg, scrape, it’s hard. I’ve got headaches a lot of times man, believe you me..."

At 46, Winston would be the second-oldest bobsled pilot in Olympic history, and this is the year for his team to make it. Let's help this historic team reach their Olympic dreams. There's only a few days to help get them to Sochi. I just pitched in $100. If you support the team, please chip in whatever you can.

For any donors that give over $50, I'll print and send a special limited-edition t-shirt, just for supporters of this campaign.

Message from Devon Harris, original "Cool Runnings" team member:

Let me take a minute to say a big thank you to all the friends and well-wishers of the Jamaica bobsleigh team.

As some of you may have already heard in the press, once we are ready to travel to Sochi, the Jamaica Olympic Association will cover the team’s airfare and the Sochi Olympic Committee, as they do for every athlete from every country, will cover our stay in the Olympic Village.

We are grateful for your overwhelming show of support. The monies you donated will be used to cover training expenses (food, board, traveling, track fees, etc), and equipment purchases as the team completes its final preparation for the Games. Funds will also be earmarked to ship the sled and related equipment to Russia.

I am happy to report that because of your generosity, we have reached our target much sooner than we anticipated.

With this, we have decided to stop accepting donations on all crowdfunding sites as of January 20, 2014. For those who may still be interested in support the team long term, we invite you to visit www.jamaicabobsleighteam.com where you will be able to make a contribution.

We look forward to your continued support as we push forward to Sochi and beyond.

Keep On Pushing!
