Help Peter "ribasushi" Rabbitson go to YAPC
Peter Rabbitson started the campaign

The title says it all! Just kidding ;)

Hi, I am ribasushi[1]. I live in socialist Europe, do sysadmin work and dabble in Pumpkin Perl. It is possible (though not that likely) that some of my software[2] runs your company. An unfortunate chain of events brings me back to the good old USA next month. But every cloud has a silver lining - I should be able to at least visit YAPC::NA while I am there - right? Not so fast - flying between non-metropolitan airports is $#%^@%# expensive. Enough so that combined with the untimeliness of my plans I can not currently afford it.

This is why this campaign exists - I am merely asking good folks to chip in and add a loud obnoxious russian to the eclectic mix of perl folk descending upon unsuspecting Austin. The campaign is designed to cover:

  • My flight from Hoosierland to Austin (roughly $600)
  • Room for 4 days ($140)
  • Conference ticket ($100)
  • Feeding Crowdtilt ($20)

How would you, a regular Perl user benefit from contributing to this cause?

  • You are likely to feel good about yourself (though you already program in Perl, so not much room for improvement)
  • You will allow at least two eager young minds to meet me in person and get inspired to help out make RDBMS interaction even less hateful
  • If you are attending YAPC::NA yourself you will get the privilege to buy me a beer and get any advanced DBIx::Class question answered (not necessarily in that order)

How exactly am I planning to run this? Glad you asked - here is what will happen at the milestones:

  • The moment the campaign tilts - I am going. Even if it doesn't reach the desired amount, I will find a way to pay for the rest. And I will be happy
  • If the full amount materializes - I will be $250 happier
  • In the extremely unlikely event there are even more funds contributed I pledge not to spend them on beer. Any extra money will go towards my visit to YAPC::EU in August (luckily that is much closer and less expensive).

And that's pretty much it - let's see what happens ;)
