Hannah Fransen started the campaign

Nicaragua is a mountainous, rural country and medical care is limited or non-existent in many villages. Few women have access to prenatal care and most births are unattended by professionals of any kind. Every 38 hrs. a Nicaraguan woman dies complications associated with childbirth. A few years ago Casa Materna, a not for profit organization, began providing housing for women in the last few weeks of pregnancy near a hospital in one of the larger cities. Women travel for days, often by horseback, boat and walking, so they can have a safe delivery attended by professionals.

Casa Materna Jinotega is sorely in need of repair. Most urgently a new roof and windows. In order for them to continue to house these women a new roof is needed. A donation of $20 gets you a really cool T-shirt and the satisfaction of knowing you are helping some wonderful young women give birth safely! ($20 gets you 1 T, $40 two T's)
