EVERY 63 SECONDS SOMEONE IN THE U.S. DIES FROM A HEART ATTACK

 

When suffering a heart attack, seconds count. That’s why at the first onset of heart attack symptoms, the American Heart Association recommends calling 911 and chewing an aspirin tablet. When that aspirin tablet is readily available via the At Heart® emergency aspirin dispenser, a life could be saved.

 

Most of the heart attacks occur when someone is away from home, and most heart attack deaths occur before the patient gets to the hospital.  That’s why Advent Consumer Healthcare, LLC, developed a way to protect yourself by carrying two aspirin tablets with you at all times in a securely protected dispenser. In August, 2010, the company introduced the At Heart® emergency aspirin dispenser, which was available in CVS pharmacies for around $5. While the product sold well, it did not meet the volume expectations of CVS and was discontinued in May, 2012. The product continues to be sold from the website www.AtHeartOnline.com.

 

At Heart® got a big boost recently when Rosie O’Donnell was on the Dr. Oz Show talking about her heart attack and she mentioned that she now does not leave her home without At Heart® on her key chain! 

 

SO WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

We are not serving the market we need to reach since we are an “internet only” business. In general, the older demographic does not buy products on the internet, and these are the people who have the greatest need for our product. Our phones ring constantly with requests to “tell me what store carries At Heart®” and we have to tell people the answer is none.

 

Even with the great publicity we received from Rosie O’Donnell and Dr. Oz, we are still relatively unknown. We need to get At Heart® back in retail distribution across the country, and we need to help spread the word on the benefits this product can offer.

 

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We are on a mission. We have two primary goals:

 

1.     We want to get At Heart® back in retail distribution so it is within reach of everyone who is at risk of having a heart attack. This will save lives. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. But we are a small company and we lack the funding for a full scale marketing effort. We want to make At Heart® available at retail locations across America, but the cost of a national rollout has prevented us from doing this. More on the funding issues later.
 

2.     We need evangelists who believe in At Heart® and our mission to save lives to help us spread the word. We are investing in the future of At Heart® by spending money to market the product and develop retail sales opportunities, but we need some help in getting the word out to people at risk. Each year, over 1 million Americans will suffer a first or recurrent heart attack, and half of them will not survive it. Despite these numbers, most people don’t know if they are at risk for a heart attack, and only about 1 in 4 Americans know the warning signs or what to do if a heart attack is suspected. We will provide materials for evangelists who are willing to help.

 

OUR FUNDING CHALLENGES

We’ve reconfigured the dispenser to make it easier to open for our elderly consumers. We’ve also simplified the packaging to provide two dispensers instead of a single unit sale (almost all customers buy at least two dispensers). This provides the retailer additional margin to make them more willing to feature and display the item. But this comes at a cost. Here is a breakdown of what we need to achieve our goal:

 

·       Revise Art/Production Plates = $1950

·       Retool Manufacturing Equipment = $2300

·       Retool Shipping Configuration = $1450

·       Revised Communication Materials/Printing = $1250

·       GRAND TOTAL = $6950

 

We are not looking for a handout. The way we can accomplish our re-launch at retail, while simultaneously spreading the word about At Heart®, is for us to essentially create “advance sales” of our retail pack. Our target timing for the retail re-launch is February, which is National Heart Month. If you help us fund our efforts to re-launch, we’ll supply you with some nice rewards that can help you spread the word on heart disease and the things you can do to prevent it.
