Thank you for supporting the first phase of our Mother Africa Campaign which has now ended. Please make sure to check out the second phase of our Campaign, "Save Our Mothers on Giving Tuesday," which celebrates a new national holiday to encourage all Americans to give to their favorite community causes. Visit our Crowdtilt page at http://tilt.tc/AWDFUSAgivetuesday

Every day more than 500 African women die during childbirth across the continent, according to the United Nations Population Fund. This is the world's highest number of maternal deaths! Emerging research is showing that by the second generation, African immigrants and refugees have among the highest levels of maternal and infant mortality in the US too. With your help, Africa’s maternal health crisis can be transformed.

The African Women's Development Fund USA (AWDF USA), a US-based public foundation devoted to African women's issues, aims to raise $15,000 over the next few weeks as part of our Mother Africa Campaign. In celebration of Black Philanthropy Month and the 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King’s historic March on Washington and dream of justice for all, this campaign raises crucial support for grassroots women's groups continent-wide who are working on the ground to reduce the number of maternal deaths in their communities. For a full list of Mother Africa Campaign events in your area, read more here.

African Women's Development Fund, our sister organization in Ghana, is the single largest funder in Africa for African women's groups – supporting over 1000 groups working in 42 countries across the continent. In our US public outreach we have raised the awareness and access to maternal health services for millions of African immigrants and refugees. Together we save the lives of African mothers, their children and communities.

Here are a few examples from among over 100 groups we support in the area of maternal health:

· Amanitare Sexual Rights Network, a Pan-African initiative that holds governments accountable for women’s health so that fewer African mothers die in pregnancy and childbirth.

· ASMADE in Burkina Faso provides maternal health education and access to reproductive health care for rural women and girls.

· Nana Yaa Memorial Trust in Ghana provides award-winning comprehensive women’s health care that prevents maternal death.

· The Regional Prevention of Maternal Mortality, a network of groups in 22 African countries that improves women’s health and human rights through the provision of accessible and affordable maternal health services.

· SOS VITA Togo promotes women’s health and human rights to ensure easy access to maternal health care.

· The Trust for Indigenous Culture and Health in Kenya provides a support network for HIV positive mothers and helps prevent the transmission of HIV to their unborn children.

* Saving Our Future is an AWDF USA community health outreach initiative using community health fairs and social media to raise African immigrant and refugee maternal health awareness in multiple languages, and has reached millions of people across the US.

From providing access to health care, offering life-saving education for African women, to empowering women with an understanding of their basic health and human rights – the groups we support seek to decrease the sky-high maternal death rate once and for all.

Please give as generously as you can, today, to AWDF USA – America’s Trusted Partner for African Giving. The funds we raise will go to strengthen the work of amazing organizations like Amanitare, ASMADE and many others continent-wide. Receive the following gifts in exchange for your donation, and provide your contact information here by October 31, 2013 so that we can mail you your gift:

· For $5, the first 100 donors will receive a lapel sticker reading “I’m Saving Our Future – Are You?”

It is fitting that is happening at the end of Black Philanthropy Month, and just after the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's historic March on Washington and "I Have a Dream Speech."
